Johan Huibers is a Dutch carpenter that had a dream. The dream was to build a life-sized version of Noah’s Ark. He realized that dream over four years ago and it quickly became one of the top attractions in southern Amsterdam. Then he had another dream; he wanted to actually sail it. Huibers wanted to take the giant vessel and sail it to the Olympics in Brazil and make several stops along the way. There is a high demand around the world. People want to see it in person, but not everyone can just up and go to Amsterdam. The cost of actually sailing it around the world was astronomical so he took to donations from admirers to fund the trip. The building of the ark itself cost him around $1.6 million, but to sail it around the world was going to cost much more. His team posted an update to announce they had decided not to make the trip due to the current affairs in Brazil. Since the athletes from all over the world made it without any issues, one has to guess that Huibers fell short in his funding goal for the trip. He probably fell well short of it because so much was needed. But that’s ok, it’s nice to dream isn’t it? Take a look at what he built. Just accomplishing what he did is amazing in itself!

In this case, there wasn’t a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, but it’s a great photo anyway!
