Beth Goodier is a 22 year old that lives her life very different than most. She sleeps for twenty two hours a day or more sometimes but it isn’t because she is lazy. She has been diagnosed with KLS (Kleine-Levin syndrome), also known as Sleeping Beauty syndrome. She sleeps for long periods of time without waking up fully or properly. When she was 16 years old, she fell asleep one day and didn’t properly wake up for five months. She can get up for a few minutes to eat and drink and take care of some other necessities but that’s about it. When she does wake up properly she races to live her live as much as she can because she never knows when she is going to fall asleep again. Not a lot is known about the disease but it seems to hit teenagers around the age of sixteen and it can last around thirteen years. This takes away some very important years as the person is growing up and loses the opportunity to finish high school, go to college, and obviously get a good job. When a person is starting their career, awake, at the age of 29 or 30 years old they are obviously well behind the rest of the people in that field, both in education and experience.
