Dominique Harrison-Bentzen was stranded on a dark, cold night in the center of Preston, Lancashire earlier this month. The 22-year-old university student lost her bank card and realized she didn’t have any cash to pay for cab fare. A homeless man named Robbie offered her £3 ($4.67 US) so she could get home safely. Harrison-Bentzen refused to take his last bit of money and finally managed to get home, and when she did she was still thinking of the kind stranger.
She posted a Facebook status about Robbie and soon found out this wasn’t his first act of kindness. Stories about him “returning wallets to pedestrians and offering his scarf to keep people warm” emerged. Harrison-Bentzen started a “Help Robbie, Preston’s Homeless Hero” fundraising campaign on [Facebook][1] and [Twitter][2] to help him with housing. The donations are pouring in and have raised £20,000 ($31,136) so far. Robbie will soon have a new place to call home just in time for Christmas and the new year.
