David Haylock wrote a letter to Santa asking for gifts like soldiers, slippers, chalks, and “any little toys you have to spare.” The six-year-old placed his letter in his home’s chimney in Caversham, England, hoping the draft would shoot his request all the way to the North Pole. It would take 72 years for a different kinda of Santa to see the letter. Lewis Shaw, a builder, found the note in the fireplace they were in the process of tearing down. Shaw took to Facebook to find the child that wrote the letter. Haylock, now 78 years old, came forward as the author. Not only did Shaw reunite Haylock with his letter, he gifted him with all the toys that were on the list seven decades earlier.
