You know the old saying “They don’t make ’em like they used to?” Well, we’re not sure who coined that popular phrase, but we can guess that when they did they were talking about stuff like this. Owned by King Frederick William II, this remarkable cabinet is full of secret cabinets, hidden drawers, and whimsical stowaway decorations. It’s considered one of the crowning achievements of European furniture making, and it’s not difficult to see why: A piece as complex as this would take the best talent to build, and the most delicate of care to maintain. The cabinet lives at the Staatliche Museen in Berlin, but you can see it in all of its complicated, secretive glory below. Can you imagine trying to find something you stored away in here?
