Secret Poems Are Appearing All Over Boston, But NEVER On Sunny Days. April 1, 2023Leave a comment

If you plan on walking the streets of Boston anytime soon, make sure to bring a sturdy umbrella so that you can thoroughly enjoy “Raining Poetry.” Beginning on April 1, just at the start of National Poetry Month, the nonprofit Mass Poetry and the city of Boston teamed up to create an art installation featuring poetry on the sidewalks. The magical thing about it is that the words only appear when it rains. Created with stencils and biodegradable water-resistant spray paint, the project is meant to bring poetry to the people, says Sara Siegel, who currently serves as Program Director at Mass Poetry. Danielle Legros Georges, Boston’s Poet Laureate, carefully selected the poems. Another installment was added on May 13, so keep your eyes out for powerful words penned by Gary Duehr, Langston Hughes, Barbara Helfgott Hyett, and Elizabeth McKim, just to name a few. You have about 6-8 weeks to enjoy them before they disappear!
