What do you consider to be beautiful? There’s no right answer to that question, as beauty is completely subjective. However, there’s no denying that different parts of the world have incredibly different standards of beauty — and that’s what this journalist wanted to highlight with her recent project. Priscilla Yuki Wilson is a woman of color — half black, and half Japanese. She’d seen writers do these kinds of experiments before, but she noticed that all of those writers were white. What she wanted to explore was how standards of beauty change globally for women of diverse backgrounds. She sent her image to photo editors in 25 countries, asking each of them to do the same thing: Edit her to make her “beautiful,” according to that country’s standards. As you can imagine, the results are pretty interesting.
