These Do It Yourself (DIY) projects have become quite popular and in most cases they are done at a fraction of the cost of buying the item at a department store. You avoid the 300% or higher markup on it and it’s more fun to do. This cloud was done in about five hours and it used the most basic of items to complete. The total is around $75 to make and that tells you that it would cost at least $200 in a major chain store. The cloud can be made with lights inside of it so that it lights up to give it that illuminated look. Underneath it the cloud can easily be made to look like it is raining or even snowing. For those that like to do things themselves and if you like the looks of this, it can be done pretty easily. In no time at all you’ll have a piece that all of your friends will be amazed at.Do you like the look of this cloud? It’s a lot easier to make than you might think.
The first thing you should do is find a good photo to use as a guide for your project.
The items you will need are easily found. You’ll need a white lampion, cotton wool, two smaller polystyrene balls (or lampions), a chain or two of lights, dowels, screw hooks, hot glue gun and invisible thread.
Glue the smaller balls to the sides of the bigger one. Make sure the glue is completely dry before moving on.
You’ll need to insert screw hooks into the balls. You’ll use these to hang the lamp.
When the balls are together you can start to glue the cotton to the balls. You’ll want to cover it completely, placing small sections over the entire piece.
If you add your own imagination to the project you can create something that looks like these.
If you want it to light up inside the cloud you’ll have to place the lights on before gluing the cotton over them.
You can get away with the most inexpensive parts. Soon it will start to take shape and you’ll get a good idea of what it’s going to look like.
You’ll want to be sure to use LED lights so they don’t get hot. Hot light bulbs and cotton aren’t a good combination.
You can use the thread to hang the cloud from a ceiling.
If you place the lights under the cotton it will look like this.
Figure out how you want the underneath lights to be arranged and carefully secure them to the bottom of the balls.
The lights have a bit of weight to them so you’ll need to make sure they are strongly secured underneath.
To get the design you want it’s best to lay them out before attaching them.
The lights are easier to attach to the bottom if the cloud is already suspended. This gives you a better view of the exact look.
Shape the cotton exactly how you want your cloud to look.

The inside lights give it a great look that will give off a low illuminating light in the room.
With the lights in the room off you’ll see a beautiful, easily done cloud with rain or snowflakes.
