There are good people in the world, they just don’t like to show off about it. In the world of social media where in order for things to matter or be relevant they have to be shared with a selfie and a couple of hashtags, not everyone is looking for thousands of likes in their accounts. Yet, every once in a while you hear of heroic, selfless stories of people who just want to help. No compensation or adulation needed. One woman received assistance from a complete stranger on her way to work. The only problem is that she has no idea what he looks like or how to find him. Ellie Farnfield was on her way to teach a fitness class in London when had a seizure in the train she was travelling. The 27-year-old has had seizure episodes before but no one has gone to such lengths to make sure she was ok.Initially when Ellie woke up she thought someone had stolen her purse.
“I was very confused. Then I saw the note and the money and felt quite emotional – it was such a thoughtful thing to do,” says Ellie.
The man also left her money for coffee and a taxi to get home safely. The stranger actually apologized for not having more cash to leave with her. He signed it simply with the name “Tom.” There was no email or mobile number to call Tom.
Tom didn’t just contact people off her phone, he also contacted the staff in the train.
The spokesperson for Southern Railway said everyone has been touched by what the man did. “What this mystery man Tom did just goes to show how thoughtful and kind-hearted many of our passengers are. This would have been a frightening experience but thanks to our good Samaritan this young lady woke up in good hands with a taxi fare home.”
Ellie says she wants to return Tom his money and thank him personally for his kind act. “I just want to thank Tom for his help. I’d tell him, ‘You’re a star and I really, really appreciate it,'” says Ellie.
“Everyone thinks Tom is great. There has been lots of speculation about who he might be, what he does, what he looks like, and friends ‘shotgunning’ him as their future boyfriend,” says Ellie.
