Our bodies, our hair, the amount of makeup we choose to wear, what we do for a living, how friendly we are, how unfriendly we are, what we say, what we do, and even our religious affiliations – a woman’s entire existence can be called into question based on stereotypes and people’s presumptions about how she chooses to live her life. There is perhaps no other place that this is truer than the inside of a woman’s closet. The clothes that women put on their bodies – whether tight and short, or loose and modest, or anywhere in between – cause people to make a slew of assumptions about who she *really* is. These assumptions are usually unfair, unkind, and rooted in sexism and misogyny. To fight against this, the human rights group Terre Des Femmes created this ad campaign, with the slogan “Don’t Judge a Woman By Her Clothes.” The ads are simple and thought-provoking, and make a bold statement about just how prevalent these kinds of judgements are in our society.
This Is The Most Disgusting Advert I Have Ever Seen… But It Needs To Be.
