How selfless would you be to help out another person? New Zealander Harman Singh defied his own religious protocols to help assist a five-year-old-boy, and now he’s being praised as a hero. The little boy was walking to school when he was hit by a car. His injuries were quite serious – he was unable to move and he was bleeding profusely from his head. Harman Singh was nearby, and he realized that the little boy needed something to press to his head to stop the bleeding. That’s when he decided to remove his turban and use it to cradle the boy’s head. Those familiar with the Sikh religion know how tremendous his act of selflessness was. Another man passing by, Gagan Dhillon, explained. > Being a Sikh myself, I know what type of respect the turban has. People just don’t take it off – people die over it. [Singh] didn’t care that his head was uncovered in public. He just wanted to help this little boy.
If you ask Singh about his actions, he has a much humbler response. In fact, Singh claimed he wasn’t even thinking about the turban and its significance in that moment: He just wanted to make sure the little boy was okay. > I saw a child down on the ground and a lady was holding him. His head was bleeding, so I unveiled my turban and put it under his head. I wasn’t thinking about the turban. I was thinking about the accident and I just thought, “He needs something on his head because he’s bleeding.” That’s my job – to help.
According to sources, the little boy is no longer in critical condition and is recovering in the hospital.
