Dads love their kids and will do anything to go above and beyond the call of duty; playing every game their child can imagine. There is another breed of dads though, who do not mind breaking out of their comfort zone just to make life easier and more fun for their children. Single dads often have to figure out things on their own. Their former partner, friends, and family can give advice once in a while but it’s never the same as being there in the trenches. Greg Wickherst wants to make sure his daughter Izzy is getting the same care and attention as other little girls who live with their moms. The college admissions counselor separated from his wife and is caring for Izzy most of the time. Feeding, dressing, playing, and just being there for her was something that came easily for Wickherst. Except the burly man was lacking a particular skill in one parenting area.And it wasn’t just giving her a haircut that was a problem. Wickherst didn’t even know how to put her hair in a simple ponytail.
Wickherst decided to give up a couple of lunch hours to visit the cosmetology department at IntelliTec College, where he works.
“I asked them to give me some pointers,” admits Wickherst.
For Wickherst and Izzy, hairstyling brought more to them than nice hairdos.
His talent didn’t develop overnight, the dad explains he has devoted many hours perfecting Izzy’s dos.
His photos have become online sensations.
Wickherst also looks up new styles online for new ideas.
Still, it’s Izzy who decides the kind of hairstyle she wants for the day.
“Sometimes she’ll ask for braids,” says the obliging dad.
One thing is for certain if Wickherst ever chooses to change careers, Izzy can recommend one for him.
