When Luke Rheault had his mother-son-dance with his mom he had no idea how important that moment would become for him. Rebekah had been diagnosed with ALS a year before his 2008 nuptials. Rheault got down on his knees to be at the same level as his mom who was in a wheelchair. “I wanted her to feel so special in that very moment, so I tried to make the best of it and spin her around and continue smiling with her,” says Rheault. The duo danced to Mariah’s Carey, “Hero.” Sadly, Rebekah passed away less than a year later. Rheault, however, did not see the dance video until a couple months ago. “I found myself reliving all that this woman did for me — everything that she embodied as a mother and everything she taught me to be.”
