Prom is one of the greatest experiences a high school teen will have in their lives, but no one ever said you had to bring a date. However, most students expect their peers to walk through the door with a significant other like a king with her queen. But 17-year-old Kaylah Bell had no one who could be her prom date. So instead she went stag with her friends. But she had no idea that her grandpa was about to become the prom king of her heart.Unfortunately, the 17-year-old high school student from Lancaster, California, didn’t have a date to go to the prom with. This was the equivalent of the end of the world for some teens, but Kaylah had some amazing friends she wanted to go to prom with.
Then, her grandpa, Alvin Hackett, gave her the most shocking surprise of her young life. He walked out in a color-coordinated suit that complemented her prom dress. But she had no idea why he had done this.
So, the beloved grandfather came up with a special plan and stepped in. He even got Kaylah a rose corsage as well as a matching boutonniere for himself. Kaylah was speechless but extremely happy.
Everyone was snapping photos of the two of them, which undoubtedly made Alvin feel like a superstar. “My friends thought it was so adorable, because they knew how hard it was for me to find a date, and they know how much I love my grandpa,” she stated.
She uploaded her prom photos and added the caption: “My papa knew I didn’t have a date to my prom so he matched me!” In less than no time, the post received thousands of likes, comments, and retweets.
What he had done had definitely earned him the title of best grandpa ever. Unfortunately, there was an age limit at the prom, so he wasn’t able to walk through the doors side by side with Kaylah. But he had made her prom special before it even started.
“My papa matching was truly a blessing to me, it makes me emotional to think about it because we are super close,” Kaylah added. If Kayla had been given the choice of going to the prom with a date or experiencing this with her grandpa, we’re sure she would have still chosen Alvin every time.
