In April 2013, a small boat washed ashore in Crescent City, California. After some sleuthing, it was discovered that the boat had come all the way from Japan, a piece of debris that was lost to the devastating 2011 tsunami. The presence of the boat in California meant that it had traveled over 5,000 miles in the course of two years. Fascinated, a Humboldt State University professor dug deeper into the story and found out exactly where the boat had come from. What transpired from there is nothing short of amazing — and it’s a story you absolutely have to see.
