Teaching information and community technology (I.C.T.) to students is difficult enough when you have computers. After all, technology is advancing faster than many of us can keep up. But this hasn’t stopped Owura Kwadwo, a teacher from Kumasi, Ghana, from passing on the knowledge to his students. But what makes this teacher so unique? Well, maybe it’s the fact that he’s teaching I.C.T. without the actual use of any form of computer technology. Yet somehow, he’s successfully managed to get his students to understand and as soon as the powers that be at Microsoft took notice, they decided to give Kwadwo a helping hand.As a teacher, Kwadwo knows that you sometimes have to come up with creative ways to overcome challenges, especially when you’re trying to teach information and communications technology to kids without an actual computer.

He drew a Microsoft Word page on the chalkboard to illustrate how the popular word processing program worked. He even posted on Facebook that teaching I.C.T. on the board “is very funny.”

Using the board as a resource allows him to help his students understand the basic concepts of I.C.T. The photos of what he does have gone viral on social media and caught the attention of a woman named Rebecca Enonchong, who wanted to help Kwadwo out.

Microsoft Africa replied to her request who claimed that “supporting teachers to enable digital transformation in education is at the core of what we do.” To that end, they chose to give Kwadwo a device and access to their MCE program and professional development resources.

He has certainly gone above and beyond the call of duty in order to provide his students the best quality of teaching when it comes to technology, especially in a region of the world where the equipment isn’t easy to come by.
