Most people have felt anxiety at one point or another. Feelings of fear, nervousness, and even social awkwardness are natural states appearing over a job, relationship or even finances. Nonetheless, when these emotions are present constantly, everyday life can feel lonely and overwhelming. Illustrator Gemma Correll knows what anxiety and depression feels like all too well. The Brit is using comics to highlight the struggles in a respectful and light-hearted way. “I honestly think that humour can be a saviour at times of distress or, if you just live with a constant level of anxiety and depression like I do,” she says. Correll hopes her sketches will begin a conversation on a very taboo topic. She explains, “I know that I would have felt a little better as an anxiety-ridden teenager if I knew that I wasn’t completely alone in my fears.”
