Among the grand Haussmann buildings of Paris, the maids’ rooms in contrast were designed small, with little to no light and literally a box with barely room to move. In modern times, these rooms have been forgotten or left to be used as storage rooms. One family desperately needed a maid’s room for their au pair who required her own independent living space. Kitoko Studio was given the task of transforming an 86-square foot apartment in to a functional apartment with space for a bed, kitchen, table, chair, bookshelf, closet and bathroom. To make this task a reality, Kioto used a Swiss army knife as their inspiration.
