Artificial reefs are made to promote the growth of coral, marine life and control erosion. Normally concrete blocks and PVC are used, but many reefs are built using objects such as airplanes, ships, and even oil rigs. [Jason deCaires Taylor](http://www.underwatersculpture.com/) is an artist who specializes in the creation of contemporary sculptures as artificial reefs. In 2006, he created the world’s first underwater sculpture park off the coast of Grenada in the West Indies. It’s now listed as one of the Top 25 Wonders of the World by National Geographic.
