When Shaylee Hubbs rescued a day-old calf name Goliath, she had no idea how quickly he would become part of the family. The newborn was a “drop calf,” meaning he was removed from the mother quickly after birth. Goliath was weak and unable to stand on his own. Hubbs and the rest of the family in their ranch in Danville, California nursed him to health. The only concern the family has now is that Goliath believes he’s a dog. “He was raised with our three dogs, and he’s around them every day,” says Hubbs. Goliath is particularly fond of Leonidas, a two-year-old Great Dane. The male canine has become Goliath’s surrogate mom and best friend.
