A 55-ft-tall glass church in the shape of a high-heeled shoe has been erected in Taiwan at the cost of about $686,000, reported BBC. The “Cinderella High-Heel Church” can be found in to provincial city of Chiayi in southern Taiwan. According to a spokeswoman, the name is based off of the famous fairy tale, but the design was actually meant to honor victims of blackfoot disease in coastal areas (Yunlin, Chiayi and Tainan counties) in the mid-twentieth century. In order to survive, many of the victims had to have their foot amputated. The church is meant to deliver a sense of happiness and a bright future for locals and visitors alike. Local government officials in the Southwest Coast National Scenic Area, or the “shoe-makers” in this case, decided on the project last June. The structure which spans 10m wide, was completed in two months and boasts over 320 blue tinted glass panels.. It will not be used for regular church services, despite earlier reports saying otherwise, but will instead be used for pre-wedding photo shoots and wedding ceremonies. Inside the church, visitors will find over 100 women-inspired installations. Some of the features include “chairs for lovers, maple leaves, biscuits and cakes,” a government spokesman told local media.
