Dean Wharmby was a normal guy with an active lifestyle: He had a beautiful wife, adorable daughter, and an obsession with health and fitness. Unfortunately, in order to achieve his fitness goals, Wharmby didn’t always make the healthiest choices. The story below documents how he went from a buff body builder to a cancer patient — and the dangerous things he consumed in the process. It’s a heartbreaking story, but it’s also potentially eye-opening for anyone with the same regimen. Read about Dean’s life and death below.

He ate at least 10,000 calories per day, countering that with hours of exercise.

To maintain energy for his workouts, Wharmby drank at least two energy drinks per hour. He also took steroids to enhance his performance.

But then, the unthinkable happened.

They determined it was cancerous, and he needed chemotherapy.

Wharmby refused chemo, opting for other medicine instead.

However, once it did, Wharmby went right back to his old diet and exercise plan — including the energy drinks.

It returned, and this time it was much more serious.

He continued to get weaker and weaker.

That’s right: In addition to the steroid abuse, it was the excessive energy drinks.

Those ingredients can theoretically make cancers grow at more rapid speeds.

Officially, Wharmby had liver cancer. It was incurable.

He was supposed to live a long, happy life — but things don’t always go as planned.

At just 39 years old, Dean passed away.

His wife Charlotte, and his daughter, Scarlet, now have to cope with not having him around.

When it comes to diet and lifestyle, you can be the seemingly healthiest guy in the world — but if you’re putting the wrong things into your body, you never know what can happen.
