Decommissioned city buses will serve a new purpose to the public in Hawaii. Instead of being sold for parts when they are no longer needed, the vehicles will help their most vulnerable citizens, the homeless. The architecture firm [Group 70 International][1] plans on creating a fleet of buses with a specific function: to give the folks who need a helping hand, a place to call home. Each bus will serve a different purpose: sleeping, bathrooms with showers and recreational facilities. Ma Ry Kim, Design Director for Group 70, said the cost and labor to repurpose the old buses is expected to come from donations and volunteers. “The entire design is based on the premise that you could walk in to a hardware store, buy everything you need in one go and build everything with no trade skills,” she said.
