It looks like a moving Rorschach test, and it’s also the coolest alarm clock we’ve ever seen: It’s called the Ferrolic, and it will change the way you think about time and motion.
The clock is made with a magnetic liquid called Ferro Fluid. It was discovered that you could move the fluid using a magnet, and that led Zelf Koelman of the Eindhoven University of Technology to begin experimenting. Here’s what he had to say in an interview: > A few years ago I fell in love with the magical characteristics of a little black ‘blob’ in a bottle. One could manipulate the position and shape of a floating drop of Ferro Fluid with a magnet. The dynamics and shape of this liquid body was much like a living entity. I decided to allow this entity to live its own life and have a function. A year of research and engineering eventually resulted in Ferrolic. The Ferrolic is fully customizable, looks like a piece of art, and most importantly, accurately tells the time. You’re not going to believe how gorgeous it looks in motion.
