A police officer went far beyond the call of duty. Luisa Fernanda Urrea responded to a call where an abandoned newborn was discovered in a remote forest in Colombia. The baby who was still attached to part of the umbilical cord was starving and on the verge of hypothermia. So Urrea did the natural thing and breastfed the baby. Urrea was able to do what was needed not because of her training but because she was a new mother herself. “I have milk and I recognized the needs that this poor little creature had,” explains the cop. Her actions helped save the life of the newborn but the officer does not think what she did was anything special. “I think any woman would have given her nourishment in the same circumstances,” says Urrea. Spoken like a true hero.
