This is a story about Kunkush the cat, who traveled with his family from Mosul, Iraq, to the island of Lesbos for a chance at a safer life. The family — a woman and her five children — searched tirelessly for him after discovering they had been separated, but soon had to move on. The cat was discovered a few days later in a fishing village by people who had remembered that the family had been looking for him. Some of the local cats had been unfriendly towards him, so volunteers Amy Shrodes and Ashley Anderson took him to a vet, where he was renamed Dias. Afterwards, they worked together to reunite him with his family. Anderson helped start a social media campaign and Facebook page. “This family probably paid thousands to get a spot for themselves on this rubber boat — even infants required a fee,” Anderson said in an interview. Five weeks later, the family contacted them from Norway. The reunion began over Skype, and continued once the cat was able to fly to Steinkjer to join them for a very miraculous happily ever after. **Scroll below to see Kunkush’s journey.**
