Waiters work hard to keep their customers happy and satisfied. A positive experience at a restaurant will most often than not equal a nice tip. Kasey Simmons was not even working when he knew he had to make a woman’s day special. While shopping at a grocery store he noticed a woman standing in front of him who looked like she had been crying. Other people may have noticed the elderly lady but everyone was going about their business. Simmons tried to make her smile. “It’s not raining inside. There’s no reason to look so down. I’m sure you have a beautiful smile because you are a beautiful lady,” Simmons told her. He thought nothing of it when he paid for her groceries. “It was only $17, but it’s not about the money. It’s about showing someone you care,” explains Simmons. While at work at Applebee’s restaurant in Little Elm, Texas, the next day, Simmons was the one who was smiling when a patron left a 135,000% tip. They asked for their bill which was $0.65. They requested for Simmons to split the bill so that one charge on the credit card came to $0.37. “‘Are you serious?'” Simmon asked himself. “I think she wanted to see if I was a real nice guy or a fake nice guy. The real nice guy splits it, and brings the lady her check.” Simmons was shocked when he noticed the tip they left him.

“On behalf of the Sullivan family, I want to thank you for being the person you are. On one of the most depressing days of the year, (the death of my father’s 3 year anniversary) you made my mother’s day wonderful. She has been smiling since you did what you did. You insisted on paying. Told her she is a very beautiful woman. I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died.”
