At Tokyo’s Odaiba Minna no YUME-TAIRIKU 2016 Festival, there’s an installation unlike any we’ve seen before. It comes in the form of an interactive pond, which sets the seen for a light mapping installation that mimics the movement of hundreds of koi fish — and you can stand right in the middle of it all. Here’s how it works: A shallow pool of calf-deep water is completely surrounded by a mirrored ceiling and walls, which reflect the fish projected at the viewers feet. The fish move differently in the water depending on the situation, changing speeds and even crashing into visitors’ feet, shattering into flowers upon contact. Sounds pretty rad, right? Well, the installation is just one of four large-scale installations by this Japanese art collective, teamLab, on display until the end of August.
