In northeastern Morocco, in the heart of the Rif Mountains, there is a town called Chefchaouen. The entire village is painted blue by the Jewish refugees who lived there during the 1930’s. The blue paint is a reminder of God above in heaven. The people still continue to follow the tradition carried on through centuries. Blue pigment is sold in bags and pots throughout the city. Residents faithfully paint their homes, balconies, railings, windows, door and flower pots. Many of the interiors of these homes are blue too. Tourists come to enjoy the picturesque town along with the handicrafts the townspeople make such as wool garments and blankets.

And meet the 3 mayors… errr, just kidding 🙂
