When Gabriella Kaper saw that her local Goodwill store in Maine, Portland was having a $1 sale, she bought five winter jackets. She took the coats and wrapped them around light posts in the city with a note that read, “I am not lost. Please take me if you need me.” The 20-year-old returned the next day to find that all the jackets were gone. The college student has begun a movement in her city as more people are leaving coats, mittens, and scarves for the homeless. Communities across North America are working hard to keep the less fortunate warm as temperatures fall below freezing. Kaper has no plans of slowing down; “I plan to go back every Monday for as long as it’s cold out. If I help someone, then I feel like I accomplished something.”

->**“I put them on light posts so they’re higher up so people can see them and they’re up as a display to catch people’s attention,” Kaper says.**<-

We live in a caring community! Great to see coats downtown for whoever might need one in this cold weather. pic.twitter.com/kRAvIlWdDV — FEED NOVA SCOTIA (@FEEDNOVASCOTIA) November 16, 2015
