Over 350 starving and abused pit bulls were rescued from the 2nd biggest dog fighting ring raid in US history. It spanned over 4 states, Alabama, Georgia, Texas, and Mississippi. The 10 people responsible are facing up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. One of the youngest dogs rescued was an 8-week-old puppy, Timmy. He was treated so poorly, he was chosen by the [ASPCA](http://www.aspca.org/) as the poster dog for abused animals. Timmy ended up getting adopted by a loving family, but the process took 7 months. Under the law, dogs are considered to be property. After a dog is seized from a suspected fighting situation, either the owner has to voluntarily give up rights to the animal or the court has to order the dog be given to someone else.
If you want to help animals like Timmy, donate to the [ASPCA](http://www.aspca.org/) or [The Humane Society](http://www.humanesociety.org/).
