Mrs. T, a 90-year-old tortoise, had a pretty tough hibernation this winter. Sometime during her deep winter sleep, rats got into her enclosure and managed to chew off her two front legs. Mrs T’s owner, Jude Ryder, discovered the gruesome scene and was terrified that her dear old tortoise would have to be put to sleep. Then, she had a stroke of genius. Ryder decided to fit Mrs. T with a set of wheels – two front wheels, to be exact. Using resin to attach the wheels to her shell, Ryder was able to give Mrs. T a new chance at life – an effort that is especially worthwhile, given that Mrs. T could live for about 50 more years. For now, this tortoise is adjusting to her new wheels and learning how to roll through life faster than ever. Ironically, according to Ryder, the only thing she has left to learn with her wheels is how to slow down.
