Nobody likes grabbing the remote to change the channel only to find out there is a dead battery inside. Those can be some pretty frustrating moments, especially if you are comfortable and don’t want to get up off the couch. There is a theory that says you can find out which battery is dead so you can replace it. The best way (and recommended way) is to just put a meter on them and you’ll have your results in a matter of seconds. Another theory (not recommended) says that you can drop the battery onto a table and if it’s good it will stand up. If the battery is dead it will bounce and fall over. It’s explained that this has something to do with the density inside the battery that causes it to land flat and stand when full. However, there is a big flaw in this testing system. Not all batteries are designed the same. Some have flat sides and some are rounded. If you drop a flat sided battery on its side, the chances that it will stand are pretty good. If you drop a round sided battery on its side the chances of it standing are much less, for obvious reasons. This test was done on two different batteries. Results would be more conclusive if they were both the same company. The bottom line though is if you have a dead battery you are going to have to get up off the couch anyway, to get a new one. No matter how you decide to test it, the bottom line is that one of them is dead and you need to replace it.
