The violin is considered one of the most difficult instruments to learn to play. If not performed correctly, the strings make high pitch sounds that sound like a painful screech. This may be one of the reasons why the fiddle is so intimidating. Therese Trollbu from Norway has spent the last two years learning to master the violin. She has recorded every session since the first week she picked up the fiddle on April 2013. The 24-year-old is self-taught, she has only taken eight music lessons. Trollbu begins playing with a simple melody of “Happy Birthday,” progressing to Beethoven’s “Ode to Joy.” By the two-year and three-month mark she is playing the “River Flows in You.” Trollbu has decided to take her music further by hiring a teacher. This woman is a great example that it’s never too late to learn something new.
