The sky is the limit, at least that’s what the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) is aiming for. The British developer is looking to make planes windowless. The body of the plane will use multimedia panels so passengers can enjoy a panoramic view. The ‘digital wallpaper’ will be adjustable for lighting and viewing purposes. The lighting will have time-zone adjustment to diminish the symptoms of jet lag. For business travelers, the new features will offer the opportunity to conference meetings, while those looking for the leisurely flight will use the panels for entertainment purposes such as watching movies or surfing the net.
The designers are using OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diode) technology. This will allow for bendable panels or walls and lighten the weight of the plane. A lighter plane requires less fuel which means less CO2 emissions and lower operational cost.
