Good friends can come in all shapes, sizes, and colors, especially if that friend just so happens to be an animal. While most people adopt their animals from shelters or pet stores, this person found her new best friend in the unlikeliest of places. Keep reading to find out how a spur-of-the-moment snack turned into a lifelong friend for a woman living in Malaysia. One day, Erica was at a Vietnamese restaurant in Puchong when she made a decision that would change her life forever. You see, this particular restaurant offered what some people would consider a controversial snack.

Balut is a developing bird embryo that is a boiled and eaten right of the shell. Most countries consider it to be taboo and controversial, but the dish is extremely popular in Southeast Asian countries, such as Vietnam and Thailand.

But, instead of eating in the restaurant like most people, she decided to bring it home with her so it could hatch. Using a styrofoam box and some heat lamps, Erica made the perfect incubator for her little egg.

“Watching her emerge from the egg, I fell in love with her immediately. And that was how I became a ‘mother’ on Father’s Day in 2017,” said Erica. But what was she going to do with the duckling now that it was alive?

Erica settled on the classic name, Daisy. But just like most pet owners, Erica gave her little one a nickname, as well. Eventually, she came up with the nickname Bibit for her new friend.

She absolutely loves water, and if Erica ever needs to look for Bibit, all she needs to do is head to the bathroom. More often than not, Bibit can be found playing with the water in the bathtub.

Most of the time, Bibit does a great job in the bathroom, but of course, there are times when she’s naughty, too! Erica has quickly learned that if Bibit is being too quiet, then there’s a good chance that she’s sneaking into the bathroom to destroy something.

Erica and Bibit both love watching movies on Netflix. When Bibit was a bit smaller, Erica used to sneak her into the movie theatre with her. Hopefully, she bought Bibit her own popcorn because ducks can be a bit snippy with their snacks!

Erica explains that Bibit lays an egg approximately every 25 hours, so she has plenty of eggs to share with her friends and family. Having your very own duck appears to better than going to the grocery store every time you want an omelet!

“Ducks make wonderful companions. My Bibit is charming and attentive. I hope more people realize how much fun it is to have a duck as a pet,” said Erica.
