It goes without saying that the housing market has skyrocketed all over the country. Because of this, people all over are having a difficult time finding a house that they can actually afford. This has caused many people to change their lifestyle to one of modesty and simplicity. This man was absolutely fed up with looking for a house on the current market, so he decided to do something about it.This is partly caused by the fact that the cost of purchasing a home has gone up about 70% in many places in the United States during the past six years. This doesn’t make it easy for a lot of people to purchase a home, and Jason Miles understands that first hand.
He was tired of paying such high costs to rent a home, so he decided that it was time for him to buy a home of his own. Unfortunately, he would soon learn that finding an affordable house wasn’t go to be as easy as he thought.
“I spent all of 2015 perusing listings and going to open houses, only to have the homes that were in my price range snapped up by other buyers the day they came onto the market, or, in many cases, before the homes were even officially for sale,” he explained in an interview with Country Living.
“Nearly a hundred people a day move to my city, and most come from other parts of the country where the cost of living is higher. Many come here with lucrative job offers in hand. Needless to say, they’re bringing equity with them and can (usually) easily afford housing. For those of us who’ve been here a while, however, it’s not so simple,” he explained.
Billy knew that he wanted more space than he had in his old apartment, so he decided to make it 800 square feet, but with tall enough ceilings to accommodate his tall frame. So, using YouTube as a guide, he began to learn how to do all of the construction himself.
After spending countless hours on the build, Jason is more than proud of the work he put into his new home. “My home is definitely a labor of love that took a lot of blood, sweat, and tears,” he said.
A home that comes complete with a bathroom, a full kitchen, a large loft bedroom, and enough space to keep all of his musical equipment. It sure does sound amazing, but is Jason actually able to save money?
But that’s not all. Because he opted for a 15-year loan on the land he built on, he’s looking at saving $20,000 in interest payments, as well.
His home has been appraised at $40,000, which is a bit more than what he put into it. Sounds like he’s making out like a bandit when it comes to saving money!
